Nagaon city had a population of 155,889 making it one of the largest cities of Assam. The population is largely of heterogeneous nature. Indigenous Assamese communities along with tribal communities like Karbi, Tiwa (Lalung) are the natives of the city.

(1) Maha Mrityunjay Temple
Maha Mrityunjay Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Hindu God Shiva, situated in Nagaon, Assam, India. This Temple is special in its architectural sense as it is built in a form a Shivling. It is the World's largest Shivalinga, at the height of 126 foot. This feature is made it unique and very attractive for the devotees.
(2) Bordowa Than
Bordowa 'Batadrava' Than is a holy pilgrimage site in Nagaon
, Assam
. It is located in the birthplace of the great Assamese saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankardev
. Sankardev at the age of 19, established the Bordowa Than in 1468, it is also the first Namghar
or Than constructed. The rituals of this Than
is conducted according to the norms of Purush sanghati
. The pilgrimage
site is located at Batadrava, about 16 km from Nagaon
city and it covers an area of 16 bigha

( 10 ) Patekibori Satra / Alipukhuri Satra
The great poet saint of Assam, Srimanta Sankardeva , was born in the year 1449 at a small village called Alipukhuri-Patekibori near Moirabari in Marigaon district. He was the son of Shri Kusumbar Shiromoni Bhuyan and Smt. Satya Sandhya. This multi- faceted genius remodeled the Assamese society by removing inequalities and untouchability among people and gave the society a new religion ,literature , poetry music, drama ,etc. On the whole , Sankardeva gave a new concept and culture to the Assamese society. This multi- dimensional personality of Assam left for heavenly abode in the year 1568.
However he shifted his Karmabhumi from his birthplace to Bordowa , which is in Nagaon District and about 9 KM from this place.
(11) Hatimura temple
Hatimura is a very beautiful place full of natural beauties with hills on the river bank of mighty Brahmaputra. It is famous for the hindu temple "Shaktipith" (Goddess Mahishamardini) which was built during the reign of Ahom king Pramatta Singha in 1745 A.D. A must visit place for history buffs as the temple provides a rare glimpse into the Ahom Kingdom and its legacy.It is a beautiful picnic spot.
(12) Trishuldhari Shiva Templea temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated on the southern bank of the River Brahmaputra. The major attraction of the temple is the fact that it is 2000 years old. It is believed that whoever comes to seek blessings here has his or her wish granted and also lives a prosperous life. The Trishuldhari Silghat Temple gives a panoramic view of the river Brahmaputra and is like a mini paradise for nature lovers and photographers. Not only do people visit the temple for Lord Shiva but also visit it to seek the blessings of Maa Kamkhya. It is also a famous picnic spot. People come to this place to enjoy the view of the Silghat hills, Jute Mill, Kamakhya Dewalaya and spend some quality time on the bank of the river Brahmaputra. The best time to visit the temple is from October to April. The Ashok Ashtami Mela is celebrated in the first week of April every year near the Maa Kamakhya temple.
